Story Boards

From creating my synopsis it has enabled me to start looking at creating a story board and from doing my research into existing film trailers, i can summarise which shots and sound effects work best within my horror genre this will then allow my film trailer to appeal successfully to its target audince.

  • I will have a Linear Narrative, so the events in my trailer will happen chronologically;
  • I will include a flashback of previous victims of the A assoication;
  • I will use a range of shot types and Camera Angles to best relate my film to the horror genre;
  • My intial ideas are shown below in my storyboards.

    Treatment

    Treatment

    Genre;
    My chosen genre for my trailer is Horror, this is because after doing primary research of my questionnaire I have summarised that horror films are the most preferred type of film for my target audience. I have also chosen this type of genre because providing I use the right editing techniques I could provoke the essence of fear by allowing my audience to use their imagination within my trailer.
    I am using horror as my genre to best target my audience through dealing with people’s vulnerabilities, our terror of unknown and fear of death.

    Duration/ Length;
    My Teaser trailer will be 1 minute long, just to give the audience a lure, for them to be interested in watching more.

    Production Dates;
    I will start filming my trailer the last week of January 2012 or the beginning for February however this date is to be confirmed. I will have 2 weeks to complete my trailer and a contingency week.

    Format/Medium;
    I will be making a film trailer, a print poster and a website home page. This is because I feel these distribution techniques will target my audience best. This is because it will target them in there day to day life's.

    Location;
    The location of my film trailer will be inside a house and outside in a Garden and woods. However I will need to gain permission for the owners or council to be able to film my trailer in these locations.

    Description of the Audience;
    My target audience is males and females aged 16- 25. I have chosen horror because it is a film genre that attracts both genders. I will attract this audience by using the traditional codes and conventions of horror films. I have also gained ideas from this target audience through primary research of how to appeal my film to them such as what sort of characters to use or where to set my trailer. This should enable my trailer to be successful at targeting my intended audience. I have also concluded that using specific shot types in order to leave my audience in suspense will be a technique that will appeal to my target audience.
    I have also chosen this age group because a popular hobby would going to the cinema to socialise with friends. This target audience will also allow my trailer to have the potential to create a ‘water cooler conversation,’ that will help my trailer be successful because of word of mouth buzz.

    Target Market Place;
    I am making a trailer and a poster. Therefore my target market place for my trailer would be the internet, TV and at the cinema before other horror films. This is so my film will reach its target audience. The poster will also be placed in order to reach my target audience such as prints at bus and train stations, billboards around town etc.

    Resources and Equipment;
    For the pre production I will need storyboards. The equipment I will be using to produce my moving image trailer will be camera, tripod and boom microphone. For the post production in order to edit my trailer I will be using I- Movie and to create my poster I will be using Photo shot. To produce my Website I will be using Moon fruit.

    Synopsis;
    The film Trailer I am going to be making is called ‘The A Association’
    Eve Yaris, was 17 years old and a straight A student studying at college, she was uncommonly pretty and her innocence was a contrast compared to her best friend Amelia Jones who’s life couldn’t be as opposite to Eve. Eve was invited to join ‘The A Association’ this was a private club for straight A students. The college assured her that this was an honour and great opportunity. However her best friend was an E grade student and lied about being a straight A student in order to go with Eve. Therefore both accepted the week away to meet other straight A students. However they failed to mention to them that not all new members leave. The agenda of the other members of the association were not as they first appeared.

    Budgets;
             The costing of my film trailer will be as follows;
             Actors- £200 a day for main parts
             Location- £50 a day
             Props- £35
